I don’t know much about it.
When you were a child, did you hear people talking about nuclear weapons? How were the general feelings about these weapons?
I heard about it from my dad. I didn’t give it much thought though.
Did you understand who the enemy was?
How was the enemy typically portrayed in your society?
No, not really.
Did your school have air raid drills during this era?
What were some of the procedures?
No we didn’t have any.

I heard about it but didn’t know what it was or what they did.

No.

Nothing really about the war.

Yes, I wasn’t really worried.

The Russians (Soviet Union). And that they weren’t free.

I would hear about people being afraid and worried that someone could just drop a bomb on us but I wasn’t worried.

How the enemy was typically portrayed in your society?
The Russians were portrayed as bad people.

What were some of the procedures?
We didn’t have any drills.
When you were younger, did you ever hear about a bomb shelter?
What supplies did people put in bomb shelters? Why?
What feelings did you have about these bomb shelters?
I heard about them, they used to have blankets and canned food. I thought the people were over exaggerating there wouldn’t be a bomb dropping, and I was right.
Were you afraid of nuclear weapons?
Of course not.
Describe someone you admired during this time period?
My mother, she swore that nothing would happen and she knew what she was talking about.
What do you remember watching on television or hearing on the radio?
I didn’t really listen to the radio; I watched television but not the news or anything.
